Major Hipol was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and raised in Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance.
Upon Completion of The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Hipol started primary flight training in Pensacola, Florida in January 2004. Following advanced flight training, he was selected to fly the AH-1W SuperCobra and subsequently completed the Fleet Replacement Squadron course in Camp Pendleton, California. He reported to the Warriors of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 167 in March 2006 as a First Lieutenant. He deployed on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as part of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 264 in January 2007. Upon return from the 26th MEU, Captain Hipol deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2008 and again in 2009. With the Warriors he served as a squadron Night Systems Instructor (NSI) and Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI). In September 2010, he joined the Sabers of HMLA-467.
Captain Hipol checked in to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in Camp Pendleton, California in January 2011. He deployed as a Firepower Control Team (FCT) and Supporting Arms Liaison Team (SALT) Leader to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in May 2011. During the deployment, Captain Hipol attached to the British Royal Marines 45 Commando and Royal Army 2 Mercian and 3 Mercian. Upon return from deployment, he served as the Tactical Air Control Party Instructor (TACP-I), holding the billet of Platoon Commander for 1st Brigade Platoon.
Captain Hipol reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron (HMLAT) 303 in May 2013 where he transitioned to the AH-1Z. At HMLAT-303, he served as the Operations Officer through July 2016.
In July 2016, Major Hipol reported to HMLA-267 and deployed to Okinawa, Japan on the Unit Deployment Program (UDP). Upon return from the UDP, Major Hipol assumed the position of HMLA-267 Executive Officer in June 2017. In November of 2018, he again deployed to Okinawa, Japan, attaching to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 262 as the 31st MEU HMLA Detachment OIC.
Major Hipol has over 3,000 mishap-free flight hours including over 800 NVG hours and 350 combat hours. His personal decorations include four Strike/Flight Air Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
