SINGAPORE (May 12, 2007) – Marines and Sailors of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit took part in community relations projects May 10 and 11 while on liberty call in Singapore.

Just over 20 Marines and Sailors from the Bonhomme Richard Strike Group took a break from the liberty “norm” to lend their services to Singapore locals.

On May 10 Marines and Sailors got together with a local organization called Superseed at the Port of Singapore Authority Sembawang military compound, to help test and pack computers that will be donated to primary schools in the Philippines. The volunteers also helped repack food that will also be donated to the Philippines and Thailand.

Volunteers took an opportunity May 11 to contribute to gardening and maintenance at the Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People. The center provides livelihood skills training to more than 200 students from Indonesia, Philippines, India and Sri Lanka.

With the 13th MEU and Bohomme Richard Strike Group working together, all can take comfort in knowing that charity is paramount of the minds of those who serve.
