The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit took time out of its WESTPAC 07-01 deployment to recognized the noncommissioned Officer-of-the-Quarter for January through April.

Corporal Hernando R. Martinez, Jr., marine air traffic control mobile team navigational aids technician for Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-163 (Rein) and Pittsburg, Calif. native, was selected as the 13th MEU NCO of the Quarter.  He volunteered for and is currently participating in the MEU’s Corporal’s Course, in which he is currently near the top of his class.

“He is a true ‘shoot and move on’ Marine,” said Gunnery Sgt. George M. Bravenec, staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge of marine air traffic control mobile team for HMM-163 (Rein).  “He does not have to be micromanaged.”

Bravenec continued that Martinez, who has been in the Marine Corps for more than two years, always strives for excellence and has a great attitude that exemplifies esprit de corps.
Martinez says he is most motivated by leaders who set the example.
